FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Your surgeon, upon diagnosis, will recommend you to the POP Team. You will then be invited to come in to POP to meet with a POP representative and sign a Consent Form to participate in the program.

The patient will go through a Baseline Assessment, where various measurements of body composition, strength, and exercise capability will be taken by the POP Team. A questionnaire about your social and psychological well-being will then be completed. You will be ready to start the program after consulting with a kinesiologist (exercise therapist), a nutritionist and a relaxation therapist who together will design an individualized program for you.

The usual program consists of 4 assessment appointments: one at Baseline, one at the Pre-Operative stage, one 4 weeks after surgery, and one 8 weeks after surgery.

The Baseline appointment lasts 2.5 to 3 hours, whereas the other three appointments last only 1 hour each. Depending on the outcome of their assessment, some patients may be required to exercise at POP 3 times a week pre-surgery; others may only be required to do so once a week.  All programs include an at-home exercise regime.

All appointments are held at the office of POP at 10E.165-168 (on the 10th floor of the E block of the Montreal General Hospital).

You must call the Research Coordinator at least 24 hours before your appointment. Why? Because space fill in very quickly and POP needs all the time available for existing patients and new ones.

That you, as a patient, comply will all aspects of the program. Your successful outcome depends on following the instructions of the POP Team. Your success is our success!
